What does it really mean to be loved by God -- not just as a concept we learned in Sunday school, but as a living, breathing reality that shapes how we see ourselves and how we move through the world? Drawing from the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15, we are invited to see the father's response to his returning son not simply as a heartwarming story, but as a vivid portrait of God's own heart toward us. The father's sprint toward his son, the robe, the ring, the sandals, the fatted calf -- each of these details carries profound meaning. The robe covers every mistake and every stain. The ring restores identity and authority. The sandals declare that we are not servants but sons and daughters. And the celebration announces to everyone watching that our return is not a shameful thing but a glorious one. The message is clear: God is not merely tolerating us. He is running toward us, arms wide open, ready to lavish us with a love that is relational, sacrificial, extravagant, and eternal. If we have ever allowed a broken relationship with an earthly father to distort our picture of who God is, this parable offers us a chance to see clearly again.
