What does it truly mean to build a church culture that goes beyond trends, traditions, and personal preferences? This message takes us on a journey through the early chapters of Acts to uncover something the first followers of Jesus understood that we often overlook today. When Jesus gave his final instructions before ascending, he narrowed everything down to one priority: wait for the Holy Spirit. Not organize, not strategize, not fill vacant positions. Wait. And yet, even those earliest disciples found themselves distracted by what seemed like a perfectly reasonable task. The lesson cuts close to home for all of us. How often do we substitute good things for the best thing? The central scriptural anchor here is Acts 1, where Jesus promises power from on high, and Luke 24, where he instructs his followers to remain in Jerusalem until they are clothed with that power. The significance is unmistakable. Jesus himself said the mission could not move forward without the Holy Spirit. That is not a minor footnote. That is the foundation. We are invited to examine whether our own lives and our shared life as a community of faith are genuinely oriented around pursuing the Holy Spirit, or whether we have quietly let other things take that center place.
